ChatGPT Is The First Alien Civilization We Got In Contact With
If you believe that communication with an alien civilization is next to impossible, think twice, because we did it already.
On a damp November 16, 1974, astronomers and renowned scientists Frank Drake and Carl Sagan sent the first intentional message to the stars from a radio telescope located in Puerto Rico. Known as the Arecibo Message, a radio wave carrying a binary code describing basic facts about the Earth and humans was sent toward the globular cluster M13, which is more than 25,000 light-years from Earth. Because of the time which takes to reach the target, and because of the relative motion between the Solar System and M1, there is a good chance we’ll never receive an answer. However, what still holds true is the belief that we can use math to communicate with beings so other than us that they might have troubles recognizing us as an intelligent species. It is worth noting that in 1974 the number of habitable, Earth-like planets in the Universe known to us was exactly 1: the Earth. Things have changed quite a bit since then.
Readers educated in the history of science may recognize the name of Frank Drake as the founding father of SETI, the Institute whose aim is to identify proof of existence of extra-terrestrial…
